Police: Car rear-ended van after shooting

SAN ANTONIO – One man is in the hospital after he was shot in the car he was riding in on the city's Eastside, according to authorities.

It happened on the 3100 block of Martin Luther King Drive.

Police said the shooter or shooters were in a field somewhere on the other side of a bail bonds building right off of IH10 and Bellinger when they fired shots at a car heading east on MLK.

The passenger riding in the back was shot in the stomach.

Police say that passenger was riding with two other men at the time. After the shooting, authorities said the driver of the car hit the back of a Star Shuttle Van, but drove to a friend's house at the 5700 block of 3 Springs Drive about eight miles from the scene.

Police said that's where someone called in the shooting.

The victim was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Meanwhile, two of the three people in the van were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

"The victim rear-ended the Star Shuttle van and fled the scene from there," said sergeant Brian Custard with the San Antonio Police Department. "They're not admitting to that. The damage was minor."
