SAN ANTONIO – It's a date that only comes around once in a hundred years -- and for many people, it's a lucky one. According to others, it's also a lucky day to have a baby.

According to Elsa Amaya, director of women's services at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio, 12/12/12 was indeed a big day for inductions.

"It's like the first day of the year, where everyone rushes to be able to get their baby delivered," she said.

Layla Dehlia was the first baby born at Children's Hospital of San Antonio, at 8:02 a.m.

Her parents scheduled for their little girl to arrive via C-section on this particular date.

"We chose this date because we wanted it to be 12/12/12," said Layla's mother, Elainie Medina.

"At first it was on the 10th, and we told (the doctor) the 12th, and he said, 'Why the 12th?' and we said, '12/12/12!'" said Medina.

As the first baby born at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio on 12/12/12, the hospital gave Layla's family a gift basket filled with such necessities as blankets, towels and toys for the new baby.

The first babies born on this date at every Christus hospital were given similar gift baskets.

A Children's Hospital spokeswoman said another baby was born at 12:12 p.m., but the family has chosen to remain anonymous.

The last time three numbers aligned in a date was on 11/11/11.

A triple alignment won't happen again for 89 years -- Jan. 1, 2101.
