SAN ANTONIO – One person is dead and SAPD is investigating a bizarre incident started with the man attacking a homeowner with a shovel and ended with the suspect dead in police custody.
Investigators say the man was beating on doors in the 100 block of Cree Friday night.

They say he beat on one door and when the homeowner answered the man attacked him with a shovel.
Police say the homeowner fought with the man and a neighbor ran help.
They managed to restrain the attacker until police arrived.
Officers cuffed the suspect but then noticed the man was not moving and was non- responsive.
Police uncuffed the suspect and performed CPR but the man was pronounced dead.
A police spokesman says they will now await a medical examiner's ruling on the cause of the man's death.
His name has not yet been released.
