6 arrested after cigarettes robbery, chase in Northwest San Antonio

San Antonio police officer injured during chase

SAN ANTONIO – A group of six people were taken into custody after San Antonio police said they stole cigarettes from a Northwest Side gas station and led police on a chase that ended with an injured officer.

Police said the group went into the Exxon station at Bandera and Loop 1604 around 1:30 a.m. Thursday and told the cashier they had a gun, then stole cigars and cigarettes.

Officers responded and chased the group up the 1604 access road to a neighborhood off Hausman where police said they bailed out of their car at a park.

"I looked and there was a car right here on the playground, a black car," Wilda Desil said. "There was a bunch of police cars. I'm talking about a hot mess right in front of my door."

Police brought their Blue Eagle helicopter and a K-9 unit to the scene and found four suspects hiding behind a house and two more near the road.

"The only thing that you'll hear that causes noise (are) kids sometimes playing basketball in the playground, (but) no other noises. But last night, they brought the noise to us," Desil said.

The suspects are expected to face several charges, including robbery, evading arrest and resisting arrest.

San Antonio police believe their crime spree started earlier in the night with a beer run at a different gas station.
