SAN ANTONIO – A woman was arrested Friday on charges she gave false statements to officers looking to arrest her husband, a convicted sex offender.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested 47-year-old Irene Rose Rubio at a Whataburger Restaurant in the 1100 block of Roosevelt Drive.

A press release said the task force and the Bandera County Sheriff's Office were looking for Rubio's husband, James Anthony, on Jan. 7. He was wanted for failing to comply with civil commitment requirements, failing to comply with sex offender registration, and committing a sex offense.

"During the initial interview, Irene Rubio allegedly provided false information to task force officers which hindered the investigation.  Without the assistance of Irene Rubio, task force officers later determined that James Rubio was hiding out at a residence in Bandera, Texas," the release said.

James Rubio ran but was quickly caught.

"It's difficult to see a friend or family member taken away in handcuffs for committing a crime, but lying to protect them, puts anyone at risk for being taken away in handcuffs along with them," said Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas.
