San Antonio boy riding bike killed by suspected drunk teen driver

Police: Luis Landin, 17, charged with intoxication manslaughter; Victim ID'd as Brandon Abrams

A 17-year-old driver identified Friday morning as Luis Landin has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with an accident that left a 6-year-old boy dead Thursday, San Antonio police said.

Landin's truck jumped a curb on the 9300 block of Autumn Sunrise on the Northwest Side and struck the boy who was riding his bicycle along the sidewalk around 6 p.m., police said. The child victim was identified Friday morning as Brandon Abrams, who was a first-grader at Nichols Elementary in the Northside Independent School District.

"The little boy went flying, shoes went everywhere. The bike went everywhere - landed up on the fence over there," said Jane Withers, who witnessed the accident. "When he got out, I said, 'What were you doing?' And he said, 'I dropped my phone and I just reached down to get it.'"

Abrams was taken by Airlife to University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A police report stated Landin was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody. Police said the case remains under investigation.
