He died after being struck by a car while walking at Gevers St. and Fair Ave. just before 7 p.m. on Friday night.

Police said it appears that the 74-year-old victim was coming from the store and walking across the street when a 69-year-old man, driving a blue car south on Gevers, struck him.

Police said the driver of the blue car told them that he did not see the 74-year-old man on the street until it was too late.

"The driver of the vehicle said he had no idea -- that he didn't see the guy," said Gary Pelfrey, with the San Antonio Police Department. "That he kind of darted out in front of him. We believe he was coming from the store. The victim here lived across the street at the apartments."

Pelfrey said there was no evidence that the driver of the car was drinking and that the incident appears to be an accident.

However, while they do not expect any charges to be filed, the accident is still under investigation.
