Police make partial ID on car in fatal hit-and-run

Still no ID on driver

San Antonio police have asked the public to help them track down the driver of a silver Chrysler 300 they believe ran over Guillermo Benavides last December.

Benavides was on his motorcycle when he was rear-ended at a stop light on West Avenue.

Witnesses said the driver then ran over Benavides as he or she fled the scene.

"I would have stopped and rendered aid," said Benavides' wife, Lydia. "This person didn't. Apparently (they) just ran over him."

Since taking Guillermo off of life-support, his family has turned their attention to tracking down the driver.

William Benavides said the recent news from investigators -- that a car had been identified -- has given the family hope that justice will soon be served.

"Until justice is served, I don't think I'll sleep. I'm pretty sure anybody would feel the same way," he said. "I'm sure it was an accident, but (the driver) leaving made it more of a crime than anything."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867)
