Anti-abortion rally held outside Planned Parenthood

Protestors mark mark 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Hundreds of anti-abortion protestors gathered outside a San Antonio Planned Parenthood facility Saturday as part of the Roe v Wade Memorial Day for Life.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court's controversial decision in the Roe v. Wade case.

"All the souls that are lost to abortion, they need a voice," said Laura Palmieri. "We need to stand up for all the unborn children that aren't being stood up for by adults."

After a morning church service, the protestors marched outside Planned Parenthood. Several local clergymen led the larger than normal crowd in prayer.

Auxiliary Bishop Oscar Cantu said the right to life message is about more than changing abortion laws; it's about "a change of heart in society that respects human life even in the womb."

"We consider it a terrible tragedy because so many lives, millions of lives, have been lost to abortion these 40 years," Cantu said. "There seems to be a tide moving across the nation where people are coming to realize that the life growing in the womb is new life."

After the march, the protesters loaded a bus headed for the Texas Rally for Life in Austin. While many in the crowd admitted abortion laws are unlikely to change soon, they're focusing their energy on Planned Parenthood.

"I wish we had this turnout every weekend," said Shannon Haase. "That building right there would be a building for children to play and live, not chamber of death."
