Rodeo-goers can lasso bargains at resale shops

Denim to blinged-out belts, pre-owned apparel sells at deep discounts

If you're looking to mosey into the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo in style, resale shops are one way to get all duded up without spending big buckaroos.

At Clothes Mentor, 742 NW Loop 410,  shelves and racks were stocked with denim, leather and bling at a fraction of retail.

"A jacket that would cost you $100 in stores, would cost you $20 to $30 here," said Emalee Grover, store manager.

At consignment or thrift stores,  pre-owned apparel typically sells for 50 percent to 75 percent off retail.

For example, a pair of Levis was tagged for $12, and a pair of blinged-out Miss Me jeans was tagged for $50.

Shopper Jo Anne Valdez said she was finding bargains.

"It looks brand new," she said. "Some still have tags. I think it's great."

The item prompting the biggest pre-rodeo stampede to the resale shops is boots.

"People are always looking for cowboy boots at resale stores," said Marilyn Caskey who runs the  Garment Exchange, 16662 San Pedro. "I hear when they are worn in a little bit, people tend to like that better."

In addition to finding bargains at resale shops, Caskey said shoppers can also find things that are unique.
