CONVERSE – Four out five home invasion suspects remain in custody after their arrests Tuesday in Converse.
Universal City and Live Oak Police said as a result, a string of armed robberies in Northeast Bexar County has been broken.
"They're not super-organized but they've been doing it awhile," said Det. Anthony Nolden, of the Universal City Police Department.
The latest incidents involving residents being confronted at gunpoint began Monday at a Live Oak apartment complex, according to Det. Anita Seamans.
Seamans said it was learned the next day that Universal City had two more mid-afternoon home invasions with the same suspect descriptions.
She said, "At that point, it was too similar to be a coincidence."
Seamans also said the Bexar County Sheriff's Office has possibly related cases of its own.
The four suspects are identified as Andre Whittaker, Keith Hunt, Tygaryus Thompson and his cousin, Robert Threatt. The men are all said to be in their 20s.
Nolden said they were caught after running out of a house in Converse where a wide assortment of allegedly stolen goods were later recovered -- from a rifle to laptop computers.
"They actually took a child's piggybank," Nolden said.
Both Nolden and Seamans said the arrests were made thanks to an alert citizen who quickly reported a group of strangers leaving a neighbor's house, and wrote down their license plate.
"They took that one extra step," Seamans said. "That's what broke it wide open."
