SAN ANTONIO – Stores and flower shops were full of love birds looking for the perfect way to express their affection Thursday morning.
One HEB's early morning rush was full of Valentines looking for the perfect gift.
Wade Wagner made plans to deliver a gift to his girlfriend at lunch, but wanted to wait until Valentine's Day to buy flowers so they'd be fresh.
"I set my alarm to get here, because I'm usually not up this early," Wagner said.
Candy caught the eye of Rene Sanchez, who wanted his wife to have a sweet start to her day.
"I just got off work. I work graveyard, so I figured I'd stop and get her something for the morning," he said.
Christina Bagley made a last-minute stop for candy and flowers, but said her boyfriend already bought her gift.
"I know he's getting me something, but it's coming in the mail. It's a surprise. I'm really excited about it," she said.
Tricia Parker, who works at HEB, said the true last-minute shoppers come late in the day, and she knows them by the desperate look in their eye.
"Between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., every man's going to get off work. They're going to get in their car and say, 'Oh my gosh. I don't have anything for Valentine's Day. She's going to kill me,'" she said.
