Man fatally stabbed with sword after argument between good friends on Grove Avenue

SAN ANTONIO – A man was stabbed to death with a 30-inch sword after a fight between good friends outside a south San Antonio apartment complex, police said.

San Antonio police responded to the stabbing in the 300 block of Grove Avenue, off South Presa, at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers found the victim lying on the ground with a stab wound to the chest, and detained three people outside the apartments including one who was the suspected stabber.

According to a San Antonio police report, the victim and the three other people were drinking and listening to music when the victim began to dance with the suspect's girlfriend.

The suspect told police he told the victim to stop, and both agreed to go to bed.

The suspect said he went inside the apartment with his girlfriend when the victim attempted to barge into his room and kicked the door in.

The suspect told police he felt threatened by the victim and grabbed a sword, then lunged at the victim with the weapon, the police report stated.

Investigators interviewed the girlfriend, who told officers many of the same details. The other witness said he did not see the stabbing and only saw the victim bleeding on the ground.

According to the police report, the suspect later admitted to hitting the victim when he saw him dancing with his girlfriend.

As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, police had not announced any charges or arrests in connection with the case.

The victim was believed to be in his 20s and a friend of the suspects for years. His name has not been released.
