Witness helps San Antonio police track down hit and run suspect

SAPD: driver hits man doing lawn work, takes off

Police arrested a hit and run suspect Thursday evening, thanks in part to a witness who followed the man.

According to SAPD, the driver jumped a curb and hit a man as he was weed-eating near a sidewalk on the 3900 block of Eisenhauer near Austin Highway shortly before 7 p.m.

Police say the driver took off after the crash, but a passerby saw where he went.

"There was a witness who followed the vehicle to a trailer park and came back to let officers know," said SAPD Sgt. Greg Garvelli.

Police were able to locate the gold Camry, which sustained significant damage due to the impact.

Officers took the driver and another man into custody in the trailer park. Police were investigating whether the driver or passenger were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Its unclear what charges the passenger could face, if any.

The driver faces at least a charge of failing to stop and render aid.

The victim was taken to University Hospital in stable condition with a cut to his head.
