3 men arrested in morning crime spree
2 charged with murder; 1 charged on warrants
SAN ANTONIO – Three men are now in police custody after a morning crime spree that left one man dead.
Police said their crime spree started on Friday morning with a robbery in the 8700 block of Wurzbach.
Police said the suspects stole a man's wallet and then took off.
Later Friday morning, police said the suspects attacked a man in the 500 block of old Highway 90.
The witness' grandmother, who wants to be identified only as Maria, said she lives right across the street from where it happened.
Maria said that her granddaughter had just pulled up with her friend and ran across the street to use the bathroom, but when she got back to the car, the three suspects had beaten her friend to death.
"What I understand is that they saw my granddaughter and they pulled over to flirt with her," said Maria. "They thought she was by herself, I guess."
Maria said she believes her granddaughter's friend was standing up for her granddaughter when the three men attacked him.
"I feel sorry for him," she said. "I was crying. I got scared and I saw him there on the ground."
Maria said her granddaughter called police and gave a description of the green SUV the guys were in.
Police traced that SUV back to a home on Fortuna, where they arrested the three suspects.
"I'm very proud of her, and then again, it's scary, because she could have gotten hurt," said Maria. "She could have gotten hurt because there were three guys."
Tyler Miller, 20, is charged with murder in connection with the beating death.
Christopher Padilla, 21, is also being charged in connection with that murder. He has also been charged with robbery.
The third suspect has been identified as Oscar Pena. He was booked on warrants and has not yet been charged with the crime spree.
The victim's name has not been released at this time.
