Edwards Aquifer Authority declares Stage V for Uvalde County

J-27 monitoring well below 840 feet

The Edwards Aquifer Authority on Thursday declared Stage V for Uvalde County.

The declaration was made based on declining water level readings at the J-27 monitoring well in Uvalde, which has been averaging below 840 feet over a 10-day period. The Uvalde Pool is 31 feet below historical monthly average.

Stage V of the EAA Critical Period Management plan requires permit holders to reduce their authorized annual pumping from the aquifer by 44 percent.

The purpose of pumping reductions is to stabilize aquifer levels and spring flow until rainfall replenishes the aquifer.

Residents and businesses who receive their water from a water utility are encouraged to contact their provider directly to find out how Stage V reductions may affect them.
