One man was charged with intoxication assault following a violent head-on crash in far north San Antonio.
A red pickup truck collided with a white SUV just before midnight on Bulverde Road near Menger Drive.
Police said the driver of the SUV, a 28-year-old Edgar Abrego, was headed south on Bulverde when he veered into the northbound lane.
The driver of the truck saw the SUV, but was unable to avoid the crash partially because the road is down to two lanes because of construction, San Antonio police said.
Abrego had to be cut out the vehicle and both men were taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center with serious injuries.
According to the police report, Abrego admitted to an EMT that he had been drinking. Police also found several empty mini bottles of liquor in the SUV.
