Scorpions lose home opener

Tampa Bay scores twice in season-opening victory

Tampa Bay scored once in each half to spoil the Scorpions home opener and first game in their brand new stadium.

The Rowdies put a goal on the board in the first half as Amani Walker headed home a shot past Scorpions goalie Pat Hannigan.

They scored another in the second half, and Hannigan was again at the center of play.

He took down a Tampa Bay attacker who had gotten free in front of the Scorpions' net.

That earned him a yellow card and the Rowdies a penalty kick.

Georgi Wristov slotted the kick past Hannigan and Tampa Bay had the victory.

The game was the Scorpions' first at their new Toyota soccer stadium and was broadcast live on KSAT 12.

And though the result was a loss they did draw and large crowd of more than 8,000 for the game.
