USPS: No midnight collections for Tax Day

USPS cites 'significant decline' in demand for special operations

Citing a "significant decline" in demand, San Antonio Postmaster Robert Carr announced Monday that there will be no midnight collections in San Antonio on Tax Day, April 15.

"With more people filing income tax returns electronically, the Post Office has seen a significant decline in mail volume from last minute tax filers," said Carr in a statement released to media on Monday.

In years past, post offices in the Alamo City would see long lines of cars as last-minute filers rushed to file their tax returns by the midnight deadline.

Carr said it is difficult to justify the cost of staffing midnight collection on that day, "especially when you consider the Postal Service's current financial condition."
