It is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at sites across the San Antonio area.

DEA Acting Agent in Charge Nancy Sanford said there is a big need to dispose of these drugs properly.

"We're taking in any prescription drugs anybody in the community has in their cabinets, if they have relatives that are no longer with them, they can drop them off," Sanford said. "There's over 30 sites."

Unwanted or unused prescription drugs can be handed off to agents standing by and they will safely dispose of the drugs.

In the five previous take-back events, more than 2 million pounds of medications were collected.

Sanford said this is medicine that shouldn't be thrown away.

"It's easy for kids to want to go and experiment, possibly try them because they think they're legal when really they're not," Sanford said.

The DEA's website shows locations across the country where drugs are being collected.

People are urged to contact the Call Center at 1-800-882-9539 if assistance is required.
