SAN ANTONIO – On the heels of showers and storms that rolled through San Antonio early Thursday morning, strong winds blew into San Antonio by mid-morning, catching people by surprise.
"I feel like I'm going blow away!" said Renicko Lindquist, who was in San Antonio from New Braunfels for a Texas Dental Association meeting.
Showers and lightning moved through San Antonio around 1 a.m. Thursday and left some areas with between one and two inches of rain.
A cold front from the northwest was expected to blow through the area during the day Thursday with strong wind gusts.
As of 6 a.m. Thursday, 30 to 35 mph winds had been reported in parts of South Central Texas.
"Turn the corner, and you're like head-on," said Jessica Salinas.
Both Lindquist and Salinas said they're usually taking shield from the sun during their May meeting -- not the wind.
"(On Wednesday), we were wearing short sleeves, and today, we're wearing jackets," Elsie Brooks said. "If you're from Texas, you should expect this. It changes from one day to the next."
She couldn't recall cold weather in May.
Terrence Ellis sums up the weather conditions in one word.
"Bipolar. Yes, San Antonio is bipolar with the weather, I should say. It doesn't know when to decide if it wants to be hot, cold, rainy or what," Ellis said. "It's like one week, you just went through Christmas, you went through Spring, Fall."
The National Weather Service predicted winds could reach 45 mph by the end of the day.
A wind advisory has been issued for South Central Texas until midnight Thursday night.
Temperatures are expected to fall into the mid 50s during the day Thursday and could drop into the low 40s by the evening.
Record or near-record low temperatures are expected Friday morning, May 3, and Saturday morning, May 4. Record lows for the month of May could be broken or approached.
