Train derails in Lytle

No injuries reported

LYTLE, Texas – A train derailed in Lytle on Friday morning.

Lytle Police Chief Richey Priest said a Union Pacific train was traveling northbound when it derailed in the downtown area at 8 a.m.

No injuries were reported and the 26 cars were empty, police said.

The open-top cars had just unloaded sand at an Eagle Ford shale site when it derailed.

Union Pacific officials hope to have rail traffic moving again by Saturday morning, and hope to have the mess totally cleaned up by the end of the weekend.
