BCSO: Girlfriend slashed boyfriend in self-defense

Girlfriend of Oscar Mascorro questioned in fatal stabbing

SAN ANTONIO – Neighbors in a far west side neighborhood are still talking about a throat slashing that happened over Mother's Day weekend.

The body of Oscar Mascorro, 33, was found with his throat slit at his home in the 9800 block of Sunset Place early Sunday morning.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, no one has been arrested in connection with the fatal cutting, but they do say his girlfriend, Valerie Acosta, did grab a knife and stabbed him in self-defense.

Witnesses said he came at her in the kitchen. They said he was angry and wanting to attack her.

Investigators say Acosta is cooperating with them.

Neighbors are shocked by the weekend's events. They say Mascorro and Acosta just moved in Saturday. They're shocked things took a turn for the worst.

Neighbor Irene Garcia said she says she's had a hard time sleeping since the incident happened.

"It's just something unexpected that happened that you wouldn't think happened but it did," said Garcia. "We usually know our neighbors and having somebody new (and) not knowing who they or what they're capable of, that is kind of scary."

"All I can say that it's a quiet neighborhood, it's really nice, everybody really knows everybody … we've never had any kind of incident happen like this," said Mary Rangel, a resident who's lived in the area for 13 years.
