Reward offered in AC company theft

Elmer's One Hour Air Conditioning and Heating targeted by scrap metal thieves

SAN ANTONIO – A $1,500 reward is being offered for information that helps capture some thieves who robbed Elmer's One Hour Air Conditioning and Heating over the weekend.

Police said around 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, security cameras caught a dark-colored pickup truck pulling up to the business, located at 13111 Lookout Ridge, on the northeast side of San Antonio.

Two men jumped out of the truck and went straight for a pile of old AC units and scraps..

"They had to have known that the stuff was here," said Lorenzo Frias, a supervisor at Elmer's One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating

The two men grabbed several loads of scrap and threw them over the fence to the getaway truck.

Frias estimated it could have been worth up to $4,000.

However, he said it's difficult to recycle the materials.

"When they take it to sell it, they have to have a license or a letter from the AC company saying they recovered the refrigerant properly so they have to know somebody or they can't really sell it," he said.

Frias said he felt violated by the theft and was disappointed because the loss directly impacts employees.

"These are units that we bring in and we break down and this is a way that we give Christmas parties and bonuses to employees," he said.

Frias believes the thieves were familiar with the business.

He hopes someone will recognize the suspects from the video and call Police.

The business is offering a $1,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

"It's important that it doesn't happen again and that people know out there that they are being watched," he said.
