Rescue numbers, deaths up in Rio Grande Valley Sector

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas heat appears to be taking its toll on illegal immigrants attempting to illegally enter the United States.

Agents in Kingsville were notified by an illegal immigrant that his daughter had died while they attempted to find a way around the checkpoint on Friday near Sarita. After searching, agents located the female's remains.

A similar event was reported in Kingsville after an illegal immigrant reported his brother had been lost in brush. After agents got an approximate location of the man, they responded, but found him dead.

Closer to the McAllen station, two separate calls were made by an illegal male immigrant and an illegal female immigrant who were lost. Both were found and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Agents at the Falfurrias Checkpoint saved the lives of 13 illegal immigrants Monday who were locked inside of a trailer.

Since October 2012, there has been a 120 percent increase in rescues in the Rio Grande Valley Sector compared to the prior fiscal year.

During that time agents have also found the remains of 95 illegal immigrants, an increase of 50 percent.

In the five days since summer officially began, Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector have already saved the lies of 15 people, found 2 dead, and seized more than $4 million worth of marijuana.
