Van de Putte statement on same-sex marriage

AUSTIN, Texas – State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court ruling striking down the federal DOMA law:
"In the Texas Legislative session that just ended, I introduced a bill to guarantee freedom from workplace and hiring discrimination based on sexual preference and sexual identity. I was sad, but not surprised, that it never made it out of committee. Today's Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality gives me anticipation and hope. It tells me we're moving in the right direction to eliminate discrimination as a nation; hopefully, Texas will eventually follow that lead."
