SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio's fireworks show took center stage at Woodlawn Lake Park Thursday night. More than 50,000 people enjoyed the July 4th holiday on the Alamo City's West Side.

Many patrons said the fireworks show is something they look forward to all year to give thanks to all those who served our country and to say 'Happy Birthday America.'

A local military family in attendance said the holiday means precious family time. Some of their family members just got back from serving overseas so spending it watching the fireworks at Woodlawn Lake Park is priceless.

"I'm going to be going there (Afghanistan) to serve for seven months. We've given up a lot of family and gotten everybody back," said Sally Delvecchio.

"Everyone should have a day off to spend with friends and family it's also about the country's birthday independence day and what it means to be a free country to do what we want," said Mark Delvecchio, U.S. Air Force.

Jessica Garcia said her heart is with her brother who is currently serving overseas. "Independence is very important for me because that's where we got our freedom, and because of them that's why we're here," she said.

The Woodlawn Lake Park fireworks show lasted about 15 minutes.
