SAN ANTONIO – A 27-year-old woman is accused of stealing more than $26,000 from a research study at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio.
Leah Douglas was arrested Wednesday on a charge of theft by a public servant.
The affidavit stated that she worked as a research project fund custodian for the Department of Psychiatry.
Douglas' job was to issue payment vouchers as reimbursement to research participants, the affidavit stated.
In the study, parents and adolescents would receive $100 in cash on qualifying visits, the affidavit stated.
Internal auditors notified UT System police after realizing there were inconsistencies in some paperwork.
The affidavit stated that they found 265 fraudulent vouchers that were written between July 31, 2012 and Feb. 16, 2013, for a total of $26,419.
Douglas' arrest came one year to the date after the alleged fraud began.
