SAN ANTONIO – According to a San Antonio police report, a rifle was used in a murder-suicide at a home in the 3400 block of River Path on the city's Northwest Side on Friday.

The first officer who arrived on scene stated a woman appeared to have been shot at close range by a man, who then took his own life.

Neighbor Peter Rodriguez described the man who lived nearby as aloof and unfriendly.

Police said the man who lived in the home used a rifle to shoot the woman, who had come to visit, then turned the rifle on himself.

Neighbors like Rodriguez said they are just glad no one else was caught in the crossfire.

"Like I say when he first moved in, he never tried to get along with nobody," said Rodriguez.

The bodies of the 60-year-old woman and the 61-year-old man were found around 12:30 p.m.

It remains under investigation how many shots were fired, but San Antonio police Chief Bill McManus said after the man fired the rifle, he called 911.

When help arrived, officers discovered the couple inside a back bedroom.

"He apparently lives in the house by himself. Just by what's in the house, we're surmising she showed up and then the shooting (occurred)," said McManus.

The names of the victims aren't being released pending notification of their families.
