Sheriff's deputy helps free woman from SUV crash

SUV was on edge of falling off highway

SAN ANTONIO – A woman is back on safe ground after her SUV was on the edge of falling off the highway on Saturday night.

It happened near loop 1604 and Cooksey Road around 4:30 p.m.

Sheriff's deputies said the woman swerved to avoid a vehicle she claimed pulled out in front of her.

Her white Chevy Tahoe slammed into the guardrail and was hanging over the highway.

The elderly female driver's legs were pinned under the steering wheel. Bexar County sheriff deputy Mike Pena pulled her out of the vehicle to safety.

She suffered minor injuries to her ankle, but refused to go to the hospital to get it checked out.
