Former deputy not guilty on 3 of 4 charges

Jury must deliberate guilt/innocence on remaining charge

SAN ANTONIO – A former Bexar County narcotics officer was found not guilty on three of the four charges against him.

Late Thursday, jurors cleared 34-year-old Anthony Alvarado on charges of theft, fraud and misapplication of funds.

During his two-week trial in Judge Lori Valenzuela's 437th District Court, prosecutors portrayed Alvarado as a dirty cop who took advantage of department payment policies.

His lawyers claimed that Alvarado was a good, hard-working undercover officer who made more cases than his colleagues.

That, they say, created resentment among other officers.

They also said that vague department policies led to the charges.

Jurors will continue to deliberate the fourth charge against Alvarado Friday morning.
