SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding a 40-year-old man accused of murder.

Police were dispatched in late August for a suspicious vehicle report of a 1995 Ford Thunderbird, which was found upon arrival parked on the 1100 block of Northwest 26th Street.

The Thunderbird's license plate was checked and the return indicated that the owner of the vehicle was a missing person, police said.

Authorities approached the Thunderbird and said they noticed a foul odor coming from it, along with dead flies in the backseat of the car.

SAPD said there was blood also throughout the front cargo area of the Thunderbird, and stains on the front seats, dashboard and on some plastic flowers hanging from the rearview mirror.

As the Thunderbird was being processed, police said a CSI opened the trunk and found a woman inside. She was removed from the vehicle and taken to the medical examiner's office.

Police said 40-year-old Rafael Hernandez has outstanding warrants for murder and assault -- family violence.

Hernandez is described by SAPD as a 40-year-old Latin man who is 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs 175 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes, and may be in Mexico.

Those with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP. Police said Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to Hernandez's arrest.
