San Antonio to bid on 2017 NCAA football playoff championship game

Sources tell ESPN game would be Jan. 9, 2017

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio will bid to host the NCAA's third football playoff championship game in 2017, sources told ESPN.

The game would be Jan. 9, 2017, and four other cities were said to be in the running. Those cities include Jacksonville, Miami, San Francisco, and Tampa.

The deadline to submit requests for proposals to bid on the 2016 and 2017 title games is Sept. 27. In November, 10 Football Bowl Subdivision commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick will vote on and announce the title game sites.

Arlington will hold the inaugural championship game at AT&T Stadium on Jan. 12, 2015.
