Drug suspect killed in Gonzales County officer-involved shooting

GONZALES COUNTY, Texas – A man was shot and killed after he opened fire on Gonzales County officers who were engaged in an active narcotics investigation Wednesday evening.

A Gonzales County press release stated officers were fired upon during the investigation by an unidentified man around 8:45 p.m. that evening.

Officers returned fire and the victim -- who has yet to be identified -- was killed in the exchange. Another man was taken into custody.

The release stated charges were pending against the man in custody and no officers were injured during the shootout.

The Texas Rangers and prosecutor's office are investigating the shooting. Neither the name of the man killed nor that of the other suspect have been released.
