Several vehicles swerved to avoid the Chrysler 300 until the driver headed down an embankment onto the main lanes of Loop 410.

The driver then struck a pickup truck head on. Two people were inside the truck and were transported to an area hospital in serious but stable condition, San Antonio police said.

The driver of the Chrysler 300, a male in his 30s, was also taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. San Antonio police said he would be given a mandatory blood draw for suspicion of DWI.

Police said a second accident occurred when a truck rear ended a car carrying two young children, a 3- and 5-year-old.

The 5-year-old suffered serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to University Hospital in critical condition.

Everyone else involved in both wrecks were treated by paramedics at the scene. Charges for both crashes were unknown early Friday morning.
