Thursday was a dangerous night for local law enforcement as a Bexar County sheriff's deputy was struck by a hit-and-run driver and an off-duty officer was nearly struck by driver in a separate accident.
Officials said the sheriff's deputy was headed east on Interstate 10 at Vance Jackson around 10:30 p.m. when he was side-swiped by the driver of a pickup truck.
The deputy lost control of the patrol car, spun around and struck another vehicle.
The third vehicle involved crashed into a retaining wall and the driver of the pickup fled the scene.
The condition of the sheriff's deputy and the third driver were unknown Friday morning. The hit-and-run driver remains at-large.
Around the same time, an off-duty SAPD officer was nearly involved in a crash on Loop 410 and Vance Jackson Road.
San Antonio police said a woman in her 20s was speeding and weaving on 410 West when she just missed slamming into the off-duty officer, but struck another vehicle instead.
The driver of the other vehicle lost control, jumped a curb and landed on the opposite side of the access road, police said.
The driver at fault was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Her passenger was taken into custody for public intoxication, police said.
The driver who was struck was taken to University Hospital with minor injuries.
