SAN ANTONIO – VIA chairman Henry Munoz said Friday he would step down from the board.
In a letter to the rest of the Board of Trustees, Munoz said, "In spite of the commitments that I maintained to my own employees and to the duties of the office of Finance Chairman of the DNC, our efforts to plan and build a twenty first century multi modal system were not at a point where they could sustain further transition after the departure of Keith Parker, so I stayed. Today, I believe VIA is well positioned for the future."

Munoz leaves before his third term is completed, something he said he told the board would likely happen.
A press release from VIA said Munoz is the CEO of the design firm Munoz and Company and was recently named Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
"Henry's leadership and vision are exactly what VIA needed to position itself for the future," said VIA CEO Jeff Arndt. "We are light years ahead of where we were just five years ago and moving forward with transformational transit projects that will make an untold impact on this community for years to come. I appreciate the time, talent and passion Mr. Munoz has invested in transforming VIA and wish him success in his future endeavors."
Munoz said his resignation is effective Feb. 1, 2014.
VIA said it would begin searching for a replacement immediately.
