Woman, 64, dies after being struck by car on Southside

A 64-year-old woman was killed on Saturday night while trying to cross the street on the city's Southside.

It happened at Moursund Boulevard and West Ansley Avenue around 8:00 p.m.

Police said the driver at first didn't realize he had hit the woman.

"He thought he hit a mailbox and realized he hit a female and came back to the scene," said Sergeant Jesse Garcia of SAPD. "It is real dangerous and dark out here. Unfortunately, he did not see her."

The woman died at the scene.

The driver is not expected to face any charges.
