Comal letter to parents

Dear Parents,

This letter is to let you know about an incident that occurred today on our campus, to give you the most accurate information we have.

Two students became involved in an altercation this morning in one of our hallways at the beginning of a passing period. Our campus staff and administrators responded swiftly, calling 911, as one of the students was clearly injured. Law enforcement requested that I place the school in lockdown as a precautionary measure. Though the incident was isolated, we wanted to clear the hallways for the emergency response team.

Again, this was a precautionary measure and at no time were any other students in danger. Later in the morning, we moved to lockout as we transitioned to the regular lunch and class schedule. We appreciate the assistance and response by New Braunfels Police Department, Comal County Sheriff's Office and our local EMS.

Any fight that includes injuries can be upsetting to students witnessing it. Please talk with your child about his/her feelings related to this incident and encourage him/her to express them. We will have counselors available at CHS tomorrow morning for any students who may need to talk about the incident further.

Your child's safety and security are my top priority at Canyon High School. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Brad Brown
Principal
