Customs and Border Protection seize 1 ton of marijuana

Marijuana hidden in pottery shipment at Laredo Port of Entry

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Laredo Port of Entry Tuesday seized more than one ton of marijuana during a routine inspection at World Trade Bridge.

CBP officers found the marijuana hidden in a pottery shipment.

"As we approach the holiday season, our officers remain vigilant as ever to prevent narcotics and other illicit merchandise from reaching our streets," said Jose Uribe, CBP Acting Port Director in Laredo.

CBP officers working at the World Trade Bridge referred a 1996 freight liner tractor hauling a shipment of ceramic pots and vases for a secondary inspection.

During the examination, CBP officers found 591 packages containing a total of nearly 2,276 pounds of alleged marijuana.
