New details have emerged about the death of a 9-month-old boy who was found soaking wet and wrapped in a blanket in his crib last month.
The new information comes from an arrest warrant affidavit released after the Wednesday night arrest of Mickey Wylie Bess, 30.
Bess is the mother of Michael Sanchez, the 9-month-old found dead on Oct. 6.
An arrest warrant affidavit stated the baby's grandmother, Bess' mother, found him in his crib and not breathing.
Paramedics who arrived at the home said the infant was wrapped tightly in a blanket and lying face down.
They said Bess appeared to be intoxicated at the time and would not tell them how Sanchez drowned, the affidavit stated.
Later, she told workers with the Department of Family and Protective Services that he drowned in a backyard swimming pool, the affidavit stated.
The affidavit stated that Bess told them she woke up in the middle of the night and found a patio door open and the baby floating in the pool.
Rather than call for help, she then wrapped him in a blanket, placed him in his crib and went back to bed, the affidavit stated.
The next day Bess went to SeaWorld with her two older children and a friend, leaving the dead child in the crib, the affidavit stated.
The friend later gave a statement to police, saying that Bess told him she was leaving the baby with her mother, the affidavit stated.
According to the affidavit, family and protective services already had an ongoing child neglect investigation against Bess.
It stated that her mother had been named primary caregiver for the infant and two other children in August, and that Bess had agreed to undergo alcohol and parental counseling.
Soon after that investigation began, the baby had a near drowning when Bess left him in a bathtub with a 3-year-old sibling, the affidavit stated.
Bess was booked into the Bexar County Jail on a charge of injury to a child, reckless by omission. Bond for her is set at $100,000.
