Boy killed in truck fire

Police say grandfather checking truck when it caught fire

A tragic truck fire killed a little boy Saturday morning, while his grandfather and others tried in vain to get the child out.

The fatal fire happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday near the corner of Rogers Rd. and Mt. Evans.

Police say the boy and grandfather were in the truck driving when it started smoking.

They say the grandfather got out to check the truck, and while he worked under the hood an explosion sent the truck up in flames, trapping the 2 year-old boy inside.

Witnesses rushed to help the grandfather get the child out, but the boy burned to death in the truck, police say.

EMS transported the grandfather to University Hospital for treatment of minor burns.

The boy's name has not yet been released.
