Police say man entered bank, displayed handgun, demanded money from clerk

A man accused of stealing from a bank in San Antonio was taken into custody Friday afternoon.

The robbery took place at 11:50 a.m. Friday at the Compass Bank on Culebra Road.

Officers learned that a robber had entered the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. After receiving the money, police said the man fled the store.

As officers began searching for the robbery suspect, police said credible information was broadcast that the suspect was near S. San Ignacio and Culebra. A west patrol officer in the area then noticed a man matching the description.

As the officer went to speak with this male, police said the man became elusive. As the officer and the man spoke, authorities said the man tried to flee from the officer and a brief struggle ensued.

The officer was able to take the man into custody in the 600 block of S. San Ignacio. Police said a search revealed money from the bank that the man was in possession of.
