Neighbors told fire officials a barking dog alerted them to the fire and several of them tried to get the men out by breaking windows and kicking down the door but there was too much smoke.

SAFD Capt. Michael Moore said firefighters responded and were able to save the men. They were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and possible burns.

A third family member, a teenage girl, was able to get out of the home safely and told neighbors the fire started because of a Christmas tree.

Fire officials have not confirmed if the Christmas tree was to blame. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and damage estimates were unknown.

Fire officials have not released any other information on the men except the son is believed to be in his mid-20s.
