Man shot north of downtown San Antonio dies

Victim shot in chest at East Grayson and Broadway streets

SAN ANTONIO – A man who was shot north of downtown early Thursday morning has died.

The 35-year-old victim was shot in the chest shortly before 6 a.m. in front of a home in the 500 block of East Grayson near Broadway.

The victim was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

"Apparently there was some sort of altercation between the victim and another male. There was a female involved as well," said San Antonio police Officer Roger Zuniga.

According to investigators, the shooting was not random, but officers would not elaborate on the relationship between the people involved.

There was a woman in her 20s at the scene, but officers were unsure of her involvement.

Police initially searched the area around the home for a shooter, but Zuniga said it was the suspected gunman who called them.

"The suspect later turned himself in, and the suspect and another witness who was at the scene were taken down for questioning," Zuniga said.

Police did not confirm whether the man who turned himself in attacked the other man or if he was defending himself.

Charges and a motive behind the shooting were unknown Thursday morning.
