SAN ANTONIO – The day after Christmas is one of the busiest time of the year for retail stores.
Academy Sports and Outdoors opened its doors at 7 a.m. Shoppers began arriving shortly after looking to return unwanted Christmas gifts.
"If you're coming in just have the item in the package, that's the easiest way. If you have the receipt, that's great. If you don't have the receipt, it's not a big deal," said Academy store director Mary Vasquez.
Not everybody was looking to return items, though.
Some people were hoping to cash in on hot deals and clearance items.
"I watch TV (and) saw that Academy was going to have some sales (so I) came over here looking around and found a heck of a deal on a firearm," said shopper Steve Ochoa.
Items were flying off the shelves and into shopping carts.
"Sometimes you just don't buy gifts last-minute and so you're like, 'Oh my god, I forgot this person,' so this is the perfect time to go shopping and try to catch up," said Mary Nabarette.
