Restaurant thief caught on camera

Thief smashes into restaurant with van

SAN ANTONIO – A thief was on the run Friday after breaking into an east side restaurant Thursday night.

The suspect used his vehicle to smash into the side of the La Teresita's restaurant, located in the 900 block of North New Braunfels, and then crawled in -- and the break-in was caught in camera.

The owner said the break-in happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when the restaurant was closed.

Surveillance video shows a white passenger van that seems to be a company vehicle, with the words "People Express" on the side.

In the video, the thief is seen taking his time and smashing into the wall twice. He then slowly crawls inside the business.

Once inside, the suspect is able to to shut off the cameras. He made off with a TV and some money from the register.

Restaurant owners have filed a police report and are asking anyone with information to come forward. The owner estimates the damage to be at about $800.
