San Antonio River goes green for St. Patrick's Day

Decades-old tradition plays out Sunday

The Alamo City started its St. Patrick's Day celebration early Sunday by dyeing the San Antonio River green.

The annual dyeing of the river and river parade took place Sunday afternoon.

More than 100 pounds of environmentally-friendly green dye was dumped into the San Antonio River to show the holiday spirit.

Since 1969, the Paseo Del Rio Association has renamed the famous river, "The River Shannon" in honor of St. Patrick's Day.
