SC family mourns loss of children killed in SA crash
Nicholaus Epps, 4, Amaya Smith, 6 killed in Loop 410 crash
A tragedy in San Antonio is being felt across the country in South Carolina.
The family of Tashawn Smith is mourning the loss of Smith's two young children who died from injuries suffered in a crash along Loop 410 on March 7.
Another driver lost control of their vehicle and slammed head-on into the family. Smith has been recovering at University Hospital since the crash.
The crash killed Smith's 4-year-old son, Nicholaus Epps, and 6-year-old daughter, Amaya.
Funerals for the two children have not yet been held partly because Smith remained in the hospital and because the family said they cannot afford the expenses.
"When you have children, you watch them grow up from birth to adulthood one day, and pursuing their dreams and their career paths. It's sad to say our family will be denied that privilege of seeing them do that," said Tashawn Smith's aunt Carolyn Able.
Some family members of Tashawn Smith are in San Antonio while she recovers. Able said another member of the family was killed in a car crash last June.
