TxDOT unveils improvements planned for 1604

Improvements proposed for Loop 1604 from Potranco to Culebra Road

Traffic congestion and safety are just a few of the topics discussed at an open house about proposed improvements to Loop 1604.

Traffic congestion and safety were just a few of the topics discussed Tuesday night at an open house about proposed improvements to Loop 1604.

The Texas Department of Transportation hosted the event at Dolph Briscoe Middle School for residents to see the proposed improvements for Loop 1604 from Potranco Road to Culebra Road.

The plan is to expand Loop 1604 to a four lane expressway and to build new overpasses and frontage roads.

TxDOT says the improvements are needed because of the growth in the area and many residents in attendance agreed.

"It will help on Loop 1604 but we will still have traffic in neighborhoods off 1604. Getting 1604 done is the first priority," said resident Hans Anderson.

The $69 million project is expected to begin early next year and is expected to last two to three years.
